Sandi Thom (real name Alexandria) is a Scottish blues singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Macduff in Aberdeenshire. In 2006, after a series of virtual concerts broadcast from her basement flat in Tooting she secured a record deal with RCA. Her infamous debut single ‘I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker’ went on to become Number One in the UK and 6 other countries. Her debut album ‘Smile it confuses people’ also went straight to number one in the UK.
At the age of 17, Sandi Thom became the youngest ever student to be accepted at the prestigious Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts aka LIPA. It has been dubbed ‘The Fame Academy’ due to the number of industry professionals teaching there and having Sir Paul McCartney as its patron.
It was here that she met her band and producers.
In 2003, Sandi Thom graduated from LIPA with a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts and is the first and only LIPA Graduate to have a number one music album in the charts.
Late in 2009, Sandi was invited to tour the UK and Europe by new blues powerhouse Joe Bonamassa and the result is “Merchants And Thieves”, a new album set for release in May 2010, that highlights Sandi’s ability to diversify and explore deeper and more organic musical roots.
Thom now lives in Brighton with her partner and co-producer Jake Field.
